Great Expectations - Crest of the Stars - The Politics of War
Crest of the Stars - The Politics of War To begin, this movie has a great beginning; it pulled me right into it.This is something not usually seen in movies of this type, so it makes it an unusual, yet pleasant experience. The action scenes are really great. Yuka Imai played his role great. Ayako Kawasumi actually caught my interest.
The friendship (and nascent romance) that ties Abh princess Lafiel to human nobleman Jinto Lin unfolds against the increasing hostilities between mankind and the vast Abh Empire. They escape the destruction of the warship Gosroth, only to find themselves in the clutches of an allied princeling attempting to increase the size of his petty domain. Based on a novel by the prominent Japanese science fiction writer Hiroyuki Morioka, Crest of the Stars plays like a cross between Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure and Macross or one of the early Gundam continuities. Jinto is a well-intentioned but reluctant nobleman who finds himself out of his league; Lafiel vacillates between no-nonsense discipline and romantic daydreams. Aya Yoshinaga's screenplay suffers from an overload of Abh jargon, including such nonsensicalities as "You put lope in your til nom?" Rated 13 Up: brief nudity, minor profanity and violence, largely limited to spaceship versus spaceship. --Charles Solomon

Hellsing - Blood Brothers To begin, this movie has a great beginning; it pulled me right into it.This is something not usually seen in movies of this type, so it makes it an unusual, yet pleasant experience. The action scenes are really great. Jji Nakata played his role great. Crispin Freeman actually caught my interest.
This gothic horror series grows increasingly violent as Luke and Jan, the Valentine Brothers, lay siege to the headquarters of the Hellsing organization, the Royal Order of Religious Knights. After numerous humans have been killed and eaten by an army of ghouls, Victoria, Walter, and Arucard finally get around to striking back. Victoria and Walter eliminate hundreds of ghouls with a combination of deadly threads and heavy artillery. The lead flies when Arucard and Luke face off, but Luke is devoured by a canine monster Arucard summons up. Jan sets himself afire rather than reveal the mastermind of their plot to Sir Integra Hellsing (a woman, despite the title). The series suffers from underdeveloped characters, a plot that is sketchy at best, and a surfeit of pointless violence. (Rated 16 and older, but unsuitable for viewers under 18: graphic violence, extensive profanity, alcohol and tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

Sleuth - Internet Movie Rental - What is the Craze About
Summary of Sleuth:
Wicked, nasty, delicious fun. Laurence Olivier is a wealthy, veddy English mystery writer. He invites Michael Caine to his elaborate country house, in order to settle some rather unpleasant business between them: Caine is having an affair with Olivier's wife, and she is about to divorce the older man. Olivier, smooth as brandy, suggests that there might be a way the two men can help each other, but what appears to be an intriguing proposition escalates into a deadly cat-and-mouse game. Sleuth boasts a twisty script by Anthony Shaffer, calculated to drive an audience to distraction; and director Joseph L. Mankiewicz (All About Eve) shows a keen eye for the telling detail. But the real fun is watching Olivier and Caine go at each other hammer and tongs, a virtuoso wrestling match between two splendid actors (both were Oscar-nominated, but lost to Marlon Brando in The Godfather). Alec Cawthorne is also quite good as the inquisitive inspector on the case. --Robert Horton
I think Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine worked wonderful in Sleuth. The great supporting cast includes Laurence Olivier, Michael Caine, Alec Cawthorne, John Matthews (II), Margo Channing.
